🎵 Theme 🎵

The Oria in the Storm Quarter of Baromenes is a grand and imposing structure, its façade is made of dark stone and adorned with intricate carvings that depict scenes from ancient myths and legends. As you enter the library, the heavy wooden doors creak open, revealing a vast space filled with rows upon rows of towering bookcases that stretch up to the high, vaulted ceiling. The air is cool and musty, with the scent of old parchment and leather-bound books permeating every inch of the room.

The library is divided into several sections, each dedicated to a different field of knowledge. The first section you come across is the history section, where ancient scrolls and tomes recount the legends and lore of the land. The shelves are lined with volumes written in various languages and scripts, some bound in gold and adorned with precious jewels.

In the center of the Oria resides a circular counter made of dark oak wood. Behind the counter, several librarians sit at their desks, poring over dusty tomes and ancient scrolls. They are dressed in long, flowing robes of deep blue, adorned with gold embroidery and intricate symbols. Each librarian has their own desk, complete with an inkwell, quill, and several stacks of books.

At the center of the counter, there is a large, ornate book stand, which displays a selection of rare and valuable tomes that are not available for loan.

there are still some visitors in the Oria including scholars and researchers who prefer to work at night when the library is quiet and peaceful, away from the distractions of the city. There are also those who seek refuge from the chaos of the streets and come to the library to read and relax. Most of the library is empty besides a few stragglers and the Librarians.

"Uuuuu~", Lulani can't help but express her excitement at the sight of the big wooden doors. The bigger the better! She licks her lips as if expecting some delicious feast to be waiting within. She teleported to the door as soon as she had identified it and was within range. "Mmmmmm~" , she practically moans while she bites her lower lip. She reaches out and touches the doors with her fingertips and leans against one as if it was some lost loved one. A part of her relished in the excitement of the unknown within and allowed just the briefest of anticipation to build, gently pushing the doors open and peeking in like a child looking somewhere they shouldn't be. Once she entered, her hands were on her face, a look of pure awe dazzled in her green-blue eyes. Oh how she could just spend ages here! She breathes the air in like she hadn't truly breathed before just now and lets out another Mmmmm~ , like the air itself was delicious. Lost to why they are there, she starts to look over the first bookcase she sees.

On the way to the Oria, Dae was quiet, trying to pay attention to the streets around them for anyone following. Eyes could be anywhere, everywhere.

Walking with the others, she managed to tell them "My knowledge comes more from listening than reading, but I will help where I can." She knew she might be a little out of her depths at the library, but it was good to get out of the inn.

A small smile, perhaps her first one in two weeks, formed on Dae's face at the sight of Lulani's enthusiam for... books. She followed the elf into the building, taking one last look out across the street. She took a deep breath, as if trying to capture some of the joy Lulani was feeling. Books. She shrugged, and her smile caved into a normal expression, not quite able to tap into the same emotion.

Dae pulled the hood of her cloak down and straightened the material across her shoulders so it covered most of the dirt and sweat on her travel weary clothes. She turned to approach the first Librarian who looked up to acknowledge their entrance. Her eyes friendly, she nodded, walked forward, and said "Can we get some help?" in Urzoa Common.

Damaia was clearly amused by Lulani's enthusiasm, but she was also impressed, if more subtly so, by the library. She had dreamed of these things in her youth and her appreciation never waned.

She waits to see if Dae gets any help, but she has a list in her mind of what they will need.

As the trio works their way around the shelves and tomes, Lu finds herself in front of the history section. Rubbing her fingers along the spines of books and on top of scroll cases she finds something interesting. A scroll case, labeled 'Age of the Corruptor' sits peculiarly upon a shelf as if begging to be picked up and read. Out of the corner of her eye, Lu could have sworn she saw movement. but if she turns to look nothing is there.

Across the Oria, Dae grabs the attention of the Half-Orc librarian who perks up to her as she approaches and asks for help. his skin is a deep olive tone, his hair a wild tangle of dark curls that he keeps pulled back in a tight bun. His sharp features are often set in a stern expression, but his eyes twinkle with warmth and intelligence. "Of course, how can Veroth be of assistance," Veroth asks back in Urzoa Common.

As Damaia takes her time, making sure that Dae is helped she feels a shiver run up her spine. A feeling of electricity, the lights in the Oria seem to brighten upon her like. spotlight has been placed upon her. No one else seems to notice. The lights move from her and shine onto a bookshelf across the Oria on the opposite side of Dae and Lu.

Dae nodded again, feeling much like an urchin lining up for a bowl of soup at the poor house. It wouldn't be the first time. But, his eyes were kind, so she took another step towards the half-orc at the counter.

"My companions and I are hoping to do some research on a few subjects. As you might guess, it is not only my first day in Baromenes, it also my first time inside such a magnificent library. Our subjects are a bit... sensitive in nature, but we would appreciate any help or direction you can give us on how to... look things up?" It was true. While Lulani and Damaia, particularly Lulani, were embracing the scene, Dae had no clue how to begin.

"We may also have a question or two not contained in books... but perhaps a learned scholar might have an answer? Although, it's a bit hard to imagine a topic without a dedicated page or two on these shelves." She gave a deft gesture with one hand toward the nearest shelves, revealing rough working calluses on her palm.

In orc-ish, she adds, Aka'gora? It's as close as you can get to "please" in the orc language and is loosely translated as "to your honour".

The reason why Lulani was here was lost to her, all that mattered at the current moment was what to read first? Fortunately, it was something she was supposed to be looking for in the first place. She eagerly grabs the scroll to have a look, but before she can open it, something catches her eye. Seeing nothing, her attention goes back to the scroll, in which she wastes no time in opening to gleam the contents inside.

Lu opens the scroll case, pulls the scroll free from its home, and then opens it to read it. In its paragraphs was a grand story.

"The Age of the Corruptor"

It told the tale of a man, a soldier who fought during the calamity, a soldier that died during the final battle of the calamity. It spoke of how this soldier, whose name has been long lost to time, made a deal with the God of death, Siarus. This soldier would be allowed to live if he acted as a guide and delivered deserving souls to the underworld. The scroll continues, talking about the many souls this champion of Siarus helped and sent to the underworld. It spoke of how the champion lost his family to old age, how he begged Siarus to let them live as well, and that when Siarus refused how the soldier grew cold. The souls slowed, the undead became more rampant, and the soldier disappeared altogether.

With the soldier gone a new threat arose, the corrupter and his horde of undead, his army of chained. The scroll gives details of the Corruptor and how he was not just a conqueror, however. He was also a charismatic and persuasive leader, who used his powers of persuasion to sway others to his cause. He promised his followers a world where death was no longer an inevitability, where they could live forever as powerful beings. He also promised them revenge against the Tyrant Gods who had cast them aside and treated them as playthings.

The corruptor was not content to simply conquer and rule over the mortal realms, however. He also sought to spread his influence to other realms beyond the mortal plane. He believed that the gods themselves were flawed and that he could do a better job of running the universe. He saw himself as a kind of deity, above the mortal races and even the gods themselves.

This was the Corruptor's biggest mistake. Despite his great power, the Corruptor was eventually defeated. His armies were scattered, and the pieces of the Chain of Yurdor were split and scattered across the land, ensuring that he could never rise again.

As Lu finished she couldn't help the feeling of being watched. Nagging at her as if someone was standing right behind her, only for there to be no one there. Except for a voice. "Lulani.." A whisper from deeper in the Oria, a tantalizing voice called.

As Damaia walked towards the light she came upon a bookshelf lined with books with spines of glittering gold. There, a myriad of books titled "Conflicts of the Serene Holds" sits. One, in particular, catches Damaia's eyes. "The Spear of Varaxis and the Battle of Eternal Fires" On its cover is an illustration of the spear of Varaxis in gold flakes. The light she had been following seems to fade, lessening its intensity. Within its pages, the book reads.

"The Spear of Varaxis and the Battle of Eternal Fires"

Legend has it that the Spear of Varaxis was crafted by the gods themselves, imbued with divine power to aid their champions in times of great need. The Archon Thalysios was said to have been chosen by the gods to wield the spear in the Battle of Eternal Fires, and it was his skill and courage that turned the tide of the battle.

As the Corruptor's armies approached the Siopós cliffs, Archon Thalysios and his warriors knew that the fate of their city and their people hung in the balance. They knew that they had to hold the pass and prevent the Corruptor from advancing any further.

For nearly a month, the two sides engaged in fierce combat, with neither gaining the upper hand. It seemed as though the battle would never end, and that the Corruptor's armies would eventually overwhelm the defenders.

Then, in a desperate move, the Corruptor summoned forth a massive beast from the underworld, hoping to use its power to break through the defenders' lines. The beast was a terrifying sight, with fiery eyes and massive claws that could crush a man's skull like an eggshell.

But Archon Thalysios was not afraid. He knew that he had been chosen by the gods to wield the Spear of Varaxis, and that it was his duty to use it to protect his people. With a fierce cry, he charged forward, the spear glowing with divine power in his hands.

The battle that followed was epic in its scope, with Thalysios and the Corruptor engaging in a one-on-one duel that would decide the fate of the land. The two combatants were evenly matched, with each landing blows that would have killed a lesser man. Their blows seemed to shear away the environment around them. There in that cliff pass the fate of Halaea and perhaps even Urzoa and beyond was decided.

But in the end, it was Thalysios who emerged victorious. With a powerful thrust of the Spear of Varaxis, he pierced the Corruptor's heart and sent him tumbling to the ground. The beast that the Corruptor had summoned disappeared back into the underworld, and the Corruptor's armies were left leaderless and in disarray.

The Battle of Eternal Fires marked the end of the Corruptor's reign of terror, and it also cemented the legend of Archon Thalysios and the Spear of Varaxis. For centuries after the battle, the spear was kept in the city's temple, where it was revered as a symbol of the god's power and the courage of those who fought to protect their home. For the past 200 hundred years though the Spear has been lost. It is said that is was stolen and hidden, waiting to be found again.

At the counter where Dae stood Veroth nodded, taking note of Dae's calloused hands. "Well welcome to the Oria, I hope you find it to your liking. As for looking up any certain tomes or scrolls you see those?" Veroths says pointing to the podiums that sit on the side of each bookshelf. Each podium held its own tome. "Those contain the title of every book and scroll on its accompanying shelf." He said smiling. "Please ask away, If I do not know I am sure one of my colleagues can."

"For questions outside of books, my companions and... " Dae hesitated and glanced around, realizing Damaia and Lulani were already digging into the shelves. A shadow of embarrassment crossed her face. "I guess just me... would like to know when the next eclipse of the two moons will occur... exactly in these coming weeks. And, I suppose... is there any local significance to such an event?"

Dae tried to remember where she was in the last eclipse. Playing on a back street of Anthropoi, through the darkness, a bowl with few coins at her feet. The street was empty, but she'd played as if in a full theatre.

Bringing herself back to the moment, she continued, plunging right in. "I would also like to do some research on the Oracle Thiovanya... his life, alliances, death and prophecies... if you could direct me to the right shelf?"

Lulani devoured the words on the scroll, rather sure that this Corruptor and soldier that had made a deal with death were one and the same. She spares another glance around, only to find no eyes staring back. She wanted to mull over the scroll some more, but decided she needed to look for more information instead. She straightened as she heard her name. Did someone whisper to her? She looked to find her companions, before she stood up and went towards the direction she felt the voice had come from. Did one of the others message her? She tries to reply, "Yes? Where are you?" She was a little cautious, the voice seemed somewhat familiar, but she didn't think it was one of her companions. It did seem somewhat familiar though... who could it be? She wondered while she wandered.

As Damaia finishes digesting the contents of the book she had been reading she turns and begins to move back to where her friends had been. As she turns she comes face to face with a stranger. Across from her is a man of average height and build, with close-cropped brown hair and piercing blue eyes that seem to miss nothing. His features are sharp and angular, chiseled into a mask of cold, calculating purpose. He wears dark leather armor that hugs his body like a second skin, allowing him to move silently enough that Damaia had not noticed his approach. A hooded cloak drapes over his shoulders, its deep black fabric blending seamlessly into the shadows. At his waist, a pair of wicked-looking daggers gleam from under the cloak, their blades seemingly honed to a razor's edge.

The man moves with a predator's grace, his steps light and swift as he makes his way closer to Damaia. "Ello' Darling." The man says through animalistic teeth while blocking Damaia's path.

Behind the counter where Dae stood Veroth rubbed his chin for a second "The next full eclipse you say?" There was a moment as Veroth bent down and pulled a dusty tome from somewhere under the counter. With a puff of air Veroth blew a cloud of dust off of the tome into Dae's direction. "Sorry about that." He said quickly before flicking through the tome's pages. "Ah yes. If this calendar is correct it should be on the same day the Midsummer's Night is celebrated on the last day of the month. It's a celebration that takes place on the longest day of the year, filled with dancing, feasting, and offerings to the gods, especially Xoros." Veroth closes the tome and sets it on a nearby stack of books that disappear behind the counter before turning his attention back to Dae. "Oracle Thiovanya? Hmm I believe you could find something about him in the same direction your tall elegant friend headed. Over that direction." Veroth pointed.

"Will that be all?" He asked clasping his hands.

"Over here." The voice answered, its word felt to the ears what silk felt to the skin. "Closer Lulani, closer," The voice seemed to gain strength as Lulani neared its source and a presence can be felt even before anything is seen. Lulani had walked through a maze of bookshelves, and her friends seemed so far away now, just how big was this place? As Lulani turned another corner she came to an opening of sorts. Inside the rows upon rows of bookshelves, there was an open circle surrounded by hundreds of thousands of books and scrolls upon their shelves. An unnatural shadow hangs over the whole area as Lulani approaches and her breath is visible as a frigid cold hits her senses. A smell of cold, the frost nips at her skin and stings her throat as she breathes. Then the source of the voice catches her eye.

At the center of the circle, there stood a tall, imposing figure, standing nearly 7 feet tall. Their skin as white as bone, and their eyes a piercing blue that glow in the darkness. Their hair is long and black and hangs in a wild tangle around their shoulders. They wear a long, flowing gown that is as dark as the shadows themselves and seems to ripple and shift as they move.

Their face is angular and sharp, with high cheekbones and a pointed chin. Their lips are thin and blue. Their hands are long and bony, with sharp, pointed nails that look like they could slice through flesh with ease.

The figure emits an aura of darkness and cold, and the air around her seems to grow colder and heavier as you approach.

"Do not be afraid my dear. Come closer."

Curiosity drove her forward, until she felt the cold. Lulani paused, her caution growing. Was this a trap? Did she go through some portal? Or maybe entered an illusion? Her hand went to her black book almost unconsciously for comfort. Curiosity not letting her turn around, she continued to follow the voice. How did she know it was in this direction? Who was it? As she saw the figure she froze, her eyes darted around looking for exits or other threats. After she establishes rather there are exits or other threats, she meets the stranger's gaze. She steps a bit closer, but keeps a good ten or so feet away. "Pardon me, I do not mean to be rude... you know my name, but I can not place yours?", she shivered involuntarily. It wasn't just the cold, it was the feeling this ... person? emitted. Could a normal person have such ... an aura? at least that was the best word she could figure at the moment. Her instincts told her to run, she kept her confident mask on, trying to hide the worry underneath.

As the dust Veroth blew off the tome settled on her, Dae couldn't help but say "No trouble, I am already full of dust... and worse than that, I'm afraid." She tucked her calloused hands back under her cloak. Dae then nodded at the given date of the next eclipse. Ten days then, give or take.

"Thank you, Veroth. I will find my friends. It seems they are much more comfortable amid the pages than I." Dae turned to go, to follow where the half-orc had pointed, but she hesitated and looked back.

"One more question? My knowledge is lacking on another topic. It will seem unrelated, I am sure, but I like to know how a story ends... what happened to Archon Thalysios, after the Battle of Eternal Fires? Did he rule long and die peacefully?"

There were so many pieces to the tale, and she was still so tired. In her mind, she was trying to write an epic saga, a poem, of Billie, Mags, Damaia and Lulani... all following the steps of Thalysios. Funny, I can't see myself in the story. She stifled a sigh, determined to hang on as long as she could be useful.
