Terror on the Farm

Recommended Posts

Mort, finally getting the torch lit thrown to him by Mordel, opens the vial of lantern oil and closes in on the creature...

Mordel moves in on the monster and attacks with his long sword. Mistiming his swing, the sword misses it's mark.

Kharn manages to once again sink the head of his axe into monster flesh. The axe head plunges deeply into the creature with a spray of gore.

With a cry of agony from Kharn's blade, the monster lunges out at Mordel and Kharn with it's reaching tentacles. Both appendages miss their targets, leaving the two companion unscathed.

As the monstrosities attention is occupied on Mordel and Kharn, Gray lands a sword strike that sends the beast into another frenzied cry.

The second monster, burrowing into the earth, disappears from sight.

OocGemlia is up.

Mortimer Davorus

Afterward, he tries his best to keep his distance from everyone and every creature, not wanting to be in a crowded area that might attract another monster from erupting from the ground.

Mordel and Kharn move in for attacks on the creature before them. Both companions, frustratingly, miss on their respective attacks.

At the same time, Mort takes aim and tosses the flaming flask of oil at the beast. In the confusion of battle his aim is off and the flask explodes on the ground to the right of the creature. The flask hits the ground and shatters, sending the fiery oil splashing all around.

Mordel and Kharn, fortunately are spared being splattered by the flaming liquid. The great worm, however, isn't as fortunate. The bottom half of the creature is covered with the liquid and is immediately set aflame. In it's rage, the creature manages to sweep out two of its tentacles, one each in the direction of Mordel and Kharn. Mordel manages to scamper out of the way of the reaching tentacle. Kharn, although having one of the appendages brush his neck seems to suffer no ill effects, other than a nasty welt blistering the skin.

Gray and Gemlia race in and attack. Gray comes up short, but the dwarf Gemlia lands a killing blow with her mace. The worm lets out a piercing scream and then collapses to the ground. Flames shoot skyward as the body hits the earth.

The party pauses for a moment, caught up in the exhilaration of the kill. After a moment they notice that the worm isn't the only thing burning. The grass in the corral is burning also. The little five foot area where the flask hit has already doubled in size. Not to mention the area around the fallen worm is starting to spread as well...

OocOk, so the first worm has burrowed back underground. The second worm is dead and still aflame. Not to mention the grass in the corral that was hit with the oil...

"Good fight," he says, heading towards the fire. "Let's get this out before we burn the whole place down."

Kharn will try to stamp out the fire if it's safe to do so. If he sees anything around that will help him put the flames out, like a blanket or a bucket of water, he'll use it.

”Fan the flames, good people! FAN THE FLAMES!”

Gray never thought he’d ever be so literal about an expression!

"Yaaahh and don't come back!" Gemlia shouted when the worm had been taken down.

When she realized there was a spreading fire, the cleric of the Living Forge stood there, just watching it. A grin came to the edge of her mouth as she panted.

Gray's words snapped her out of her trance. Not bothering to unarm herself, Gemlia ran straight at the fire and crashed upon it with her shield. She slide against it quickly, to avoid much of the heat and potentially kick up dirt. Coming to a stop, the cleric used her shield to scoop up the now loosened soil onto the fire.

As the companions begin doing what they can to put out the fire, Mordel turns toward the farmhouse to call out for assistance. His words are cut short as farm hands are already pouring out of the farmhouse and headed toward the corral. Old Aelric brings up the rear and is busy shouting orders to his hands.

In just a matter of moments, the farmhands have a bucket brigade formed. Buckets of water are passed from a well next to the barn, to where the flames are burning. In no time at all, the hands have the flames more or less under control.

As the firefight nears its end, Aeric approaches the companions. He gawks at the giant worm in horror.

"What, pray tell, is that?" The old man asks, shaking his head in disbelief. "Never have I seen such a thing!" He tosses a suspicious glance around at the companions. "Are you sure it's dead?"
