Bellow the Roost 

Rodin quickly responds, his reflexes honed in years of hunting, and looses an arrow at the small creature. It yelps, as a dog might, as the arrow grazes it. Max quickly draws some armaments as Kethra looses the bolt from her crossbow at the small humanoid, though it flies wide to clank against the cavern wall. Aeruiel, confident the rest of you can handle this creature and more concerned about what it's presence might mean, looks around concerned, but spots nothing hiding in the shadows, which are all about. 

Before Jesse can respond, the kobold and by the sound of it mayhap another companion, turn tail, quite literally, and dash out of sight!

Rodin quickly moves forward and stands to the side of the crack in the wall. He glances around the rest of the chamber to make sure there are no more surprises. He motions for the others to move to the sides so they are not directly in front of the crack.

They went through this crack. I am pretty sure it is a trap and they are trying to draw us in.

Elven Lowlight vision, so he can see 40' a if full lit rather than the normal 20 of the torch.

Will take 10 on Spot and Listen checks for a total of 15 each.

It gets a +3 bonus if any of those are applied to Drow or large spiders.

AppearanceRodin stands at 6 feet tall and appears a bit more muscular than the average elf. His skin has a light brownish tan look to it. His hair is brown with streaks of copper highlights through it and hangs down to just touch his shoulders. It normally has a bit of a wild windblown look to it. His eyes are a medium green which reminds most people of the color of leaves. He wears studded leather armor that has been dyed a camouflage pattern of browns and greens. His cloak is held closed by a brooch the shape of a silver arrow with green fletching. Aside from his dagger on his belt, the only weapon he carries is his longbow, which looks a bit thicker and sturdier than most bows.

When the pair of kobolds flee before Jessie can act, the halfling scowls knowing full well that the pair of foes are off to alert their kin.  Thinking to herself, the tiny rogue mentally muses, As Grandpa used to say, if there's two kobolds afoot then there's more than another dozen nearby, you can bet on that!

Nonetheless, the group was down here for a purpose.  Striding quickly forward as she whispers, Jessie says in a hushed tone, "You can bet it's a trap, but we either do what we can to do or we withdraw."  

If no one proposes another idea, strategy or solution, the diminutive pick pocket will step up to the hole and listen as she peeks inside looking for any traps guarding the entrance to what is likely the home location of the entire tribe.

After ensuring that there are no traps, Jessie still armed with her bow, quietly moves forward enough to peer down the tunnel where the pair of kobolds fled while using the edge of the entrance for partial hard cover, just in case.

Jessie Tosscobble III's AppearanceJessie is small standing at 2 foot 8 inches and weighing a mere 27 pounds. As such, the lass intentionally keeps her brown hair long to cover her halfling features, which allows the rogue to pass herself off as a small humanoid or even young human or half-elven child when convenient or necessary.

Dressed dark purple clothing, which is overlaid with attractive black leather accoutrements, Jessie keeps the paraphernalia of her 'profession' secreted upon her person, and especially the authorities, except when in use.

Her friendly blue eyes and warm, sincere smile are disarming and allow the lass to paint a picture of a young girl who is completely unintimidating by all appearances, an assumption often made by others which suits her well and which she actively cultivates.

To promote this look of youth or innocence, most of Jessie's weapons, alchemical doodads, pack, and other equipment are kept hidden under her clothing and also by her large heavy dark green cloak.

Bellow the Roost 

Jesse quickly dashes across the chamber, finding it littered with the corpses of kobolds and unnaturally large looking bees. On the opposite side, at the edge of the light, she finds herself looking at a section of the cavern wall, roughly five feet in width, that seems made of masonry, rather than the natural stone of the cavern. A crack, little more than one foot wide and four feet high, narrow even for one of her stature, opens up into darkness beyond. Some light from the torch filters through but only slightly. Her keen ears pick up the receding sound of foot falls though, even as Rodin quickly moves to stand beside her.

Aeruiel wasn't sure she could spot a kobold lurking in the shadows but figured that if there were more they would have shown up by now. Satisfied that none were going to come to the rescue of the kobold she asked her companions, "Does anyone speak their language? Or do they understand common?"

After listening at the crack in the wall for a moment, Jessie turns and whispers to her colleagues, "There's no trap.  The kobolds are fleeing.  I can hear them running, most likely to alert their tribe.  It's also dark in there.  We're going to need a light and, no, I don't speak their chattering lingo," she adds.

"I'm going to step just inside the hole and hide.  That way I can provide cover fire for anyone coming in.  If something changes, let me know by merely calling out, 'Come out,' and I will," the tiny halfling rogue adds with a smile.

If no one has any other thoughts, suggestions or objections, then the diminutive burglar will quietly slip through the crack in the wall and, using the light flowing through the fissure from the party's light sources, Jessie finds a good place to hide.

Once in place, the small sneak will set up an ambush by drawing her fancy bow and nocking a small razor sharp arrow before using her sharp Halfling eyes and keen ears to watch and listen for the sight or sound of movement or anything unusual in the tunnel whence the pair of kobolds fled.

Maximilian knows that he needs to get the torchlight behind him if he's to see past it into the darkness of these caves, so still holding his wand in one hand and his vial of alchemist's fire in the other, he takes a few quick steps, passing between Kethra and Aeruiel and moving a few paces farther, letting his eyes adjust to no longer having the torch in sight, and moving so that he wasn't blocking anything that Kethra or Aeruiel might want to hurl at the kobolds.

Seeing Rodin squeeze through the crack in the wall to pursue the kobolds gave him a moment's pause, and he hesitated, not following the ranger into the dark caves, but instead readying his alchemist's fire to throw at any kobold that emerges, so long as none of his companions are in the blast radius.

AppearanceMaximilian is a tall, slender, bookish young man with slightly tan skin and the brown hair and eyes common among Chondathans. His clothing is simple and understated, but very well-tailored and well-made, as would befit a noble who isn't attempting to advertise wealth to others. He wears a high-collared, brown woolen overcoat over white collared shirts (often frilled collared shirts). The rest of his clothing is simple, functional, and well-tailored, and he keeps them immaculately clean with prestidigitation. He wears a gold ring with a small ruby set in it on his right middle finger.

Aeruiel wasn't sure if they would all fit in the crack in the wall, or even if they wanted her to hide with them. She looks for another place to hide as she suspects her team wants to ambush any kobolds that might be left lingering about.

Bellow the Roost 

Jesse slides through the crack with some effort and attempts to blend into the darkness beyond, the light from the torch barely filtering through the narrow crack. Though she finds not immediate objects to obscure her, there does seem to be some space beyond the crack and it seems to extend both right and left of the crack. Aeruiel muses out loud even as she moves to try and crouch behind a few of the still somewhat fresh kobold corpses and Maximilian readies his instruments while moving forward cautiously. Not wishing to leave Jesse alone beyond the crack in the wall, Rodin quickly follows after the hin, squeezing to slip though the narrow crack. His keen elven sight allows him to see that a corridor here extends to either side of the crack but bereft of light, he can tell little else.

Kethra reloads her crossbow, mutters something about something being a trap, then pulls out another scroll and reads it through before stepping up to the crack and looking it over to assess how easy it will be to move through it.  If she can, at this point, she will squeeze through.

Having made it through the crack in the wall with only a few minor scrapes of skin, Rodin steps just to the side of the crack and then quietly calls back to the others.

There is a chamber on the other side of the crack. A bit of a tight squeeze, but manageable. Come on through with some light.

He is expecting kobolds to come jumping out and attacking them at any moment, or a bunch of stones, arrows or spears to come flying out of the dark.

Aeruiel thought about using her battleaxe to make the opening a little wider so she can slip in, but realizes that she might be able to squeeze in and not make so much noise, or spend so much time hacking away to just slip into the wall.
