Baldr Intro Game?

Admins should host a full site fantasy game where all members can create simplified characters and join the open adventure.

All members can be players and all Admin are the game masters. We can test the system (post formating,  dice rolling, etc..) and gain a higher level of overall comfort with the Baldr side of things on a mass scale. Even advertise it on the ogmw game ad section if wanted.

Just a thought! 😇

(From a human relations point of view, right now the general feel is; Hey guys, there's this different site we are working on and we are not sure when we will shut the other one down. But if you have questions, read the guide or ask.)

Unfortunately that’s not viable at all for the staff. The entire staff is 100% comprised of unpaid volunteers that all have day jobs, and all development and other site work is done in our limited free time (of which there never seems to be enough).

Now if you want to run something like that yourself, you’re more than welcome to organize it and set it up! 🙂

And there is actually a rough timetable that has been given for official launch of Baldr.  Two years at maximum (from the last Myth Weavers Meetup) which was this past June, but we are hoping (fingers crossed) to have an official launch by the time the next one comes in late June of 2023. So, I would give it no more than 18 months or so from today. Hopefully sooner.

The Human Relations side of things is very much one person's perspective too. I think the Blues have been very open about when and how OGMW is going to close. If they put a hard deadline on it now, it would mean that certain things would likely get cut from production because of time. Instead, it's volunteer work putting in hours and taking real time feedback via Discord, Baldr site forum, and OGMW site forum.

There are guides in place on this site to help people, but THEY HAVE TO BE WILLING TO READ THEM. There are people on the Discord willing to help, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO GO THERE AND ASK. There are opportunities to assist in this growth, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO BE A PART OF THE GROWTH.

On a personal level, with 15 years experience on MW to back up my anecdote here, all-inclusive/everyone who shows up gets to play games never ever ever ever work. They also set a bad precedent for new members because they give them bad "first advice" on how to conduct yourself on the site, how to apply properly, and expectations on posting rates. All in all, the idea isn't a good one.

But you should definitely run a game with the above criteria and prove me wrong. No seriously, I'd enjoy someone finding another way to include more people in games.

Lol, I would love to give it a try and wasn't being to to serious, kind of like, would be a cool idea. A flood of level 1 baldr explorers. Lol

Eitherway, i can't even get my game members to post here unless I say "well today is move day" lol 😆 😂 🤣

Nice! I'm like half and half with all the info. Still got a bunch to learn.

Sounds awesome!

I don't really do discord anymore,  But I know discord is a bit of a hit, i played many games via that place. (Rage nights! Oh I mean raid nights, lol.. jk 😜 )

Most of the games I host are short lived 3.5e adventures with 1st come 1st served  applications.

Been running my most current one since about April, going pretty good just picked up couple new members for a total of 9, so will take a few to adjust but all will be good.

As for the above game I mentioned idk, I could probably run a game like but it would have to be very basic. No round by round stuff, generic characters. Warrior has this, Rogue has this, etc.. no real stats to worry about, it would just be post and play.. sword does 1d8, bow does 1d8, etc.. no modifiers or anything..

A kiss factor would definitely need to be adhered to, especially if allowing for people to just hopin and post when able to whatevers going on at the time.

Possibly a war party setting with the Dm(s) as the generals leading the troops(players) through an anceint unexplored Valley or canyon to get to a mystical far away land. 🤔

Possible example

Day 1: people start to make characters and jump right in. (1 per player)

Scenario: The expedition party enters into the forbidden vale and decends into its depths. A musty swamp like atmosphere is met making it hard to see what lies further into the region. (Negating ranged attacks)

As chaos and confusion sets in a wave of creatures rushes out of the nearby fog. They wear no armor and carry no weapons, however as they grow closer it is easily noticed they have large claw like hands.

Dm info to players joining; each player can fight upto 10 monsters if wanted. Fighting is optional. Roll for  attacks with your post. However every monster that you attack can attack you back, player will roll for monster attacks as well.

Monster stats

Armor is 12

Health is 10

Damage is 1d4

If a player needs healing, they can just go see the healer. If they die then they make a new character or wait until the following day.

DM waits until following day to see how many monsters died (100/100)

Or if more than 1 DM is available who's ever monitoring the game can keep tract. If all monsters are defeated then next scene, if not Dm allows for 10 more attacks. (If more than 100 is killed, no worries when next dm is present he pushes into next scene.

Idk something along these lines, mainly to get comfortable with dice and posting. Dm(s) can control boss fights or play as monsters, control the generals, and/or adjust current scenes.

  • Just a rough idea off the top of my head.

Dm notes

10 xp is granted per kill to promote fighting. (Healer gets bonus xp from last healed targets kill, healing spell only, not aura based heals)

Classes;

Warrior; starts with medium armor and is equipped with melee and ranged weapons; choose from sword/axe/hammer and sheild or two handed sword/axe/hammer. Ranged weapon is a bow or crossbow (This class has a good amount of health.)

Mage; starts with no armor and is equipped with a 2handed staff, staff can be used as melee or ranged weapon. Has a few encounter based spells; an armor spell, a damage spell, and a buffing spell.  (this class has a low amount of health)

Healer; starts with no armor and is equipped with a 2handed staff, staff can only be used as a melee weapon. Healers radiate an aura, healing those nearby. Has a few encounter based spells; a protection spell, a healing spell and a light spell (this class has a low amount of health)

As they level a few other options can be added.

Warrior upgrades   (optional)

Ranger class(light armor and ranged focused)

Rouge class(light armor and melee focused)

Maurader class(heavy armor class)

Mage upgrades  (optional)

Fire Mage

Ice Mage

Earth Mage

Force Mage

Healer upgrade  (optional)

Holy knight (medium armor and weapon use)

  • Besides fighting, a serious of skills can be created to overcome non combative challenges they may face along the way. Some Movement and Alertness skills, etc..
  • Max level is 5, upgrades unlocked at 3rd.
  • Each scene must be completed before the next scene is unlocked.
  • Boss fights, (large sized monsters with loads of health)
  • Create a dozen or so spells for use with mages, healers and monsters.
  • Create immunities based on magic type, armor and weapon type
  • include undead for bonus healer damage
  • Different stats for the different armors/weapons
  • Maybe create like 50 scenes, roughly 7 scenes before average monster level increases.
  • Some early morning ideas 😁

Off topic, kind of, anyone with skills and abilities

Mobile ap version, lol
  • 1 energy point per 2 hours. (Unless they want to buy more)

Leaders can grants quests;

  • Gather stone, wood, water, and food from the valley.
  • Craft supplies, repair weapons and armor
  • Help craft strongholds
  • Exploration quests
  • Quest completion tickets available with credits

Energy consumption costs;

  • Leadership Quests cost 1 energy
  • Killing a monster costs 1 energy (shared kills cost all involved 1 energy)
  • Energy is not capped

Server uses;

  • A handful of servers available at start
  • New server added once a server is full or scene 1 is complete.
  • A dead character must wait 20 hours before being able to play again. (or buy a NPC res spell, PC healer gains resurection spell at 5th level)
  • A dead character can choose to reset account and start over on a scene 1 server.
  • A character can transfer to any server in the same scene or to a scene they did not get credit for. (Characters will not earn xp in scenes they completed.)

Modes of play ;

  • Tile based movement
  • Quick action commands
  • Real time strategy based
  • Strongholds can be crafted in every scene and are needed for gear repairs, bonus energy and xp boosts
  • Monster respawns are common in completed areas with no stronghold present in zone. No real point in turning back as resources can always be gathered from current zone/scene.

  • Just tossing that out there if anyone has skills, I got ideas. My skill level atm is 1xp 🤣
