This has turned into a horror-inspired Days of Future Past one-shot using Earth-7642 (Marvel-DC crossover universe). Definitely "over-the-top" and cinematic. Hopefully I'll have interest 🙃

Well if you're the GM you teach players the new system. If GMs don't expose players to new systems that's how the hobby stagnates.

D&D isn't the best system for mysteries. I mean you can use it but there are far better systems. For mysteries with a semi-ancient fantasy setting, is perfect. Another good system is . These systems are designed specifically for investigating mysteries and have rules to keep magic from ruining the adventure.
