Cal is ready to try this again. (resisting the urge to post it four times and make fun of the wonkiness) By the way, if any of you has any extra gold, buy me a bow. haha. -

With a sigh and a glance towards the female dwarf that seems to say, You can lead a dragon to gold, but you can't make him hoard it, Cal finishes off the last of his ale and rises to follow Gray out to the streets. As he passes the doorway behind the clanking swordsman, he almost instinctively watches where he puts his feet, minimizing his noise, and loosens a dagger on his belt. Morgansfort may be what passes for civilized in this benighted corner of the world, but that didn't mean it was safe, and someone had to keep the generous young fool alive. -

Cal speaks up, nodding to the fiery haired dwarf, "Heed our shipmate, Gray. No doubt she speaks wise. We are only an hour off the rough sea. Don't be quite so eager to have your pretty shield dinged up just yet." -

I'll post in within the next 18ish hours. Got sleep and a few things to do, and figure that mysteriously observing for the time being was good for Cal. Already got a bit too much attention so far. 🙂 -

Having only requested a hunk of bread to go with his ale, Cal leans back in the corner watching the room with some interest but not making a big deal of it. He engages in small talk with his companions but stays mostly out of the discussion. Cal isn't sure quite what he thinks of this group just yet. Some seem boisterous and inexperienced, while others seem steady, even world-weary. Time might tell. He could do worse than a group willing to back him and feed him on such short acquaintance, however. -

Cal laughs off the help in paying his way, having a sneaking suspicion that the grubbing scribe would have denied him entry otherwise. Saved climbing a wall in the night, at least. As they near the tavern, he finally confides to his new friends, "One might say I have high blood, but not high birth, if you get my meaning." He shrugs with a small grin, "Father's wife didn't appreciate my mother as much as he did. I am most certainly the son of a King. But I am no Prince, and have no claim. There are times when the name will gain me favor, but often in these western lands those times are few. Seems as though this would be one of those times." Cal claims a chair at a table in the corner, keeping his eyes towards the door and back to the wall. "It is thus that I make my own way in this world, and am not pulled along by the tassels of my father's robes." -

Gotta admit, having them pick up Vox Machina was a bonus, though. Also.. a tax for entry. And a penniless thief. Dastardly GM. -

Realizing that it was now his turn, and anticipating trouble, Cal steps boldly forward and hopes for the best. "Calivarindrin Xerintrevor, son of King Alaricrin, Lord of Greenwood. I am here to broaden my experience of the West, and to further my studies, both mystic and mundane," he says with a small flourish. "Recent tribulations along my path, however," he pats absently at pouches and pockets, "have left me a bit short on my traveling coin, so to speak." -

Cal laughs as he falls in with the young noble, "Sure, I'm up for a drink or three, assuming you're buying." After a moment as they follow the fiery haired dwarf, he comments, "Looks like she already has more metal than you." -

It is at this point that a slender elf in dark clothing trots down the gangplank to the dock and joins the apparently adventuresome humans. Considering his own lack of coin and low prospects, he walks up and addresses them openly, knowing he needs some friends to ease his way in this new land once again. "Hello there, fellow seasick travelers. What's this I hear about magic treasure, danger, and lizards? Sounds exciting!" He extends a hand to the shield bearing youth, looking up at him with a grin, "I'm Cal, mystical savant, as it were, well met, indeed. It would seem you have some metal already." Cal stands just a hair over five feet tall, and is dressed in dark clothing covered with a black cloak. Over one shoulder is a worn pack, and a shortsword hangs at his side. The observant observer would also notice the hilts of daggers sticking out of the tops of his boots, and might wonder at his claim of a mystical bent. Or they might not. His hair is jet black, and with his hood thrown back can be seen to be below his shoulders and tied into a simple tail with a bit of leather cord. His eyes, mischievous-looking with a sparkle of humor, are a deep green. -

Yeah, well, I'm just looking for some coin. Need to make a living, know what I mean? -
Levelling slow for a combo class may or may not have any bearing. It all depends on the way Gary handles levelling. By RAW, you can only gain one level per adventure, regardless of xp, and reset to one point below the next level if you have enough to advance. So conceivably if we all gained enough xp for a dual class to level once, then the rest of them should level as well. OTOH, if Gary does a "milestone" approach, then we will level at the rate of GM choice. Either method ensures that those with less level requirements don't outpace the group. Ensuring that a Thief doesn't level twice for every level a Magic User does.
